Shared note	Alice Rebecca Piland, better known as "Minnie" was born March 4, 1882, in Gates County, N. C. She married Maxie Hayes Harrell, April 21, 1901. She died December 1, 1958, and was buried in Gatesville Cemetery, N. C. Ten children were born to them. For three years after their marriage, they lived with Maxie's parents in Gates County, N. C. They then moved to Virginia and settled in Bethlehem Community near Suffolk, Va. After five or six years, they decided to move back to North Carolina, settling on a farm in Pittman Town near Reynoldson Church, Gates, N. C. Here they lived together for about twenty-two years until Maxie's death, raising their family of ten children. The family became active members of Reynoldson Baptist Church, Gates, N. C. After her husband's death, Minnie lived with her various children. At the time of her death, she was living with her son, Walter Scott in Gatesville, N. C. Alice Rebecca as a child was vey small for her age. People would say to her, "You're no bigger than a minnow." From this she derived her nickname "Minnie". Some of the younger generations and probably some of the older ones never knew her real name as she was always known as "Minnie".
