Pylant Geneology

Isaac Piland was born in Gates County, near Gatesville, N. C., January 17, 1878, the tenth child of George Washington Piland and Harriett Ann Piland. He grew up on the farm where he showed much interest and later became a very successful farmer. Isaac's mother passed away when he was in his teens, and he left home to live with his brother, Alex, who already had a farm near Holland. While working on Alex's farm he met Harriet Ida Holland, who lived a few miles away. Alex's wife, Ophelia, was sister to Ida and therefore the familes found much in common, which developed a deep friendship with both families, and later three Piland brothers married three Holland sisters. Isaac and Ida were married January 13, 1898, by Dr. N. G. Newman at Holland, Va.. They continued living for a short time with his brother, Alex, until he was able to rent a farm. After renting for several years, he was able to buy a large farm of his own in 1903, known as the Frank Holland Farm, located about five miles west of Suffolk, Va., on the Holland Road. He cleared much of the woodland and made a very nice farm. They lived happily and raised a family of ten children, five girls and five boys. Isaac and Ida were active in church and community work. Isaac served as deacon of Bethlehem Christian Church for many years, until his death on April 26, 1939. Ida lived on the farm a couple of years afterward and then bought a home in Suffolk, Va., at 211 Linden Avenue, where she lived until she died of a heart attack after having pneumonia April 16, 1947. All ten of the children were living and married when Ida passed away. Isaac and Ida were buried in Bethlehem Cemetery on the Holland Road.
