Shared note	Sarah Elizabeth ws born to George and Harriett Piland July 4, 1873, near Gatesville, N. C., in Gates County. She was known to her many friends as Sally. She met and married William Jesse Doughtie, her neighborhood sweetheart, March 10, 1895. They settled on a farm near Gatesville, N. C., and there spent the remainder of their lives together. Here Sally bore and raised thirteen children with the exception of one which they lost at the age of two. Sally was always a very active member of Harrell's Methodist Church and all her children were brought up in the church. She died April 20, 1955, at the age of eighty-two. She is buried in the cemetery at Harrell's Methodist Church.
