Shared note	George Alexander was born near Gatesville, Gates County, N. C., on September 17, 1866. He married Sarah Ophelia Holland on July 6, 1889, at Gatesville, N. C., making their first home in the Box Elder Community hear Holland, Va. Of this marriage there were nine children. Alex, as he was known to his many friends, farmed until he was crippled for life in a peanut picker accident in 1910. These injuries forced him to retire from farming and in 1919 moved his family to Suffolk, Va. He was a member of Holy Neck Christian Church while living near Holland and of the Suffolk Christian Church after moving to Suffolk. Alex served as a deacon in both churches. He died May 30, 1928, and is buried in the Holland Cemetery, Holland, Va.
