Shared note	Wife missing from household in 1850. Living Gates Co, NC 1850 census. "Jesse received eighty-eight acres from the division of his father James' property. His mother Milly's will left him fifty cents and the same amount to his siblings. Jesse probably lived all of his life in Gates County, NC. Jesse and his household lived in Gates County, NC 1820 census; same location 1830 census; same location 1840 census. "Jesse and Pleasant joined the Cool Spring Baptist Church in Dec 1832. Church was located approximately one mile west-southwest of the hamlet of Eure and 13 miles west-northwest of Gatesville. "The earlier census records show 7 or 8 males and 2 females; in 1850 only 4 children were enumerated in the household. "Jesse died on 9 Dec 1850. The executrix of his will was a Milly Piland. (Jesse's wife died, or left the household, between the 1840 and 1850 census.) Milly, the executrix, then died in the fall of 1851. We assume that Milly was Jesse's oldest daughter. She was born in 1825 and would have been 27 in 1852, apparently unmarried. "Jesse's assets did not cover his debts and land had to be sold to pay them off.
