[UND:]Will of James Piland of Gates County, North Carolina[:UND]:
In the name of God Amen - I James Piland of Gates County, North Carolina being weak of body but of sound and perfect memory (Blessed be God for same) on this the eighth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty six make and publish this my last will and testament in manner as follow God who gave it. And my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian manner. And as to the worldly goods it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me give and bequest in the following manner. Viz - first I give and bequest unto my son Thomas the land and plantation where upon he now lives, containing 100 acres, to him and his heirs and assigns forever. Item - I give and bequest unto my son John Piland the land I purchased of Thomas Greene on the south side of Cole Creek, containing 80 acres be the same more or less Also one bed, bed stead, and furniture, and three cows, and my riding horse to him and his heirs and assignees forever. And as to the rest and residue of my estate of what nature, or kind soever I will and desire it and it is my true intent and meaning that it be equally divided among my three sons. And I hereby make and ordain my beloved sons James Piland and John Piland executors of my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said James Piland have to this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written. his James X Piland seal mark Signed, Sealed, Published and declared by the said James Piland, the testators as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who were present at the time signing and sealing thereof. Law Baker his David X Piland mark her Elenore X Baker mark State of North Carolina, Gates County, February Inferiour Court of Please and Quarter session 1787.
The within Will was exhibited into court by James Piland one of the executors therein appointed and was proved by the oath of Elinor Davis one of the subscribing witnesses thereto. Then the said Will was ordered to be recorded at the same time. The said executor came into the court and qualified himself for office and prayed an owner of letters testamentare. Thereon which was accordingly granded. Teste Law Baker
