Shared note	"Reuben Piland was one of eight sons of James and Milly Piland of Gates County, NC. He was born in 1803/04, and married Judith Taylor on 4 Jan 1832. Brother Isaac Piland was a witness to the marriage. Judith was born in 1813/14. Reuben received a number of acres of land in Gates County when his father's property was divided. Reuben may have farmed the land, but the census records indicate that he was a carpenter. He was involved in a number of land transactions in Gates County. At least one census record shows that Reuben's household included at least a single slave. It is conjectured that Reuben died between 1870 and 1880."
