Shared note	"Jesse was the eldest child. He was born 1823 in Gates Co, NC and came to Texas at age 16 with the family. He is recorded in the 1840 census, separate from the family, reflecting the fact that he had received a 320 acre grant of land from the state of Texas. The land is believed to have been adjacent to that of his father's and/or brother's in what is now Lamar county, near Paris, Texas. Jesse apparently sold his land to his brother Elijah and moved to Dewitt county before 1850. Subsequently he moved to Gonzales county." (Research by Robert Owens Piland)
