THE WILL OF GEORGE PILAND OF GATES COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA In the name of God Amen. The 4th day of July I George Piland of Gates County and State of North Carolina being sick in body but of good and sound memory thanks be to Almighty God calling to rememberance the uncer estate this tranistary life and that all flesh yield to death where it shall please God call do make constitute ordain and declare this my last will and Testament in manner and form following revoking and annulling by these presents every will and wills heretofore by me made or declared by me made or declared either by word or writing and this to be taken only for my last will and testament and none other and first being sorry for all my sins past most humbly desire forgiveness for the same I give and commit my Soul to Almighty God my saviour and redemeer in whom I trust and believe hoping to have full uncern and forgiveness of all my sins and that my soul with my body at general day of the resurrection shall rise again with joy and through the merits of Christ death and passion prosses and inherit the Kingdom of Heaven prepared for all his elect chosen and my body to be buried in such a place where it shall please my executors hereafter named and now for the settling of my temporal estate and such goods and chattles as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I do order give and dispose the same in manner and form following that is to say
First I will that all my debts and dues as I owe in right to maner of persons or person whatever shall be well and truly paid or ordained within convinent time after my depass by my execrters hereafter named.
Item I leave to my well beloved wife my maner plantation with all the land thereunto belonging dureing her natural life or widowhod one feather bed and one iron pot.
Item I lend my negro man Jacob and my negro woman Phebe to my well beloved wife during her natrel life or widowhod. I also leave to my two daughters Cathoren and Elender Piland the use of my dwelling house that I now live in and likewise for them have liberty to work in the plantation to raise a reasonable suport as long as they live single but if they marry to be cut out that previlage.
Item I give the use of my negro man Jacob and my negro woman Phebe unto my daughter Catrun and Elender Piland from the death of my wife until they marry.
Item I give and bequth unto my son Edward Piland my mannerd Plantation after my wife decese or widowhod with all the land there unto belonging or joining to him and his hearis forever.
Item I give and bequeth unto my two daughters before named the increase of my negro Pebe between now and the time that she falls to my son Edward Piland to them and their heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Cathorine one negro boy named Isaac & allso give and bequeath unto the said Cathorine one feathear bead and furniture also one iron pot.
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elender one negro boy named Jacob also one feathear (bed) and furniture to she and her hairs forever.
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Parker fifteen Spanish miled dolars to she and her heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath un my two daughters Cathroin and Elender Piland the remainder of my estate to them and heires forever to be equally divided between them tow.
Lastly I nominate and appoint my well beloved son Edward Piland my whole and sole execetor of this my last will and testament. As witness my hand and seal this 4th day of July 1796. Asigned Sealed and published in the presents of us
