THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF THOMAS PILAND OF GATES COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Piland of Gates County being in perfect Health and sound in mind and Memory thanks be to God for the same, calling to mind that all must die, do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament in manor and form following viz:
Item I give and bequeth unto my Son Stephen Piland the Land whereon he now liveth beginning at the corner of his Fence as it is at present and running Southward at the Mill path gos to his own Line to him and his Heirs forever.
Item I give and Bequeath unto my Son Thomas Piland the woodling Land on the West side of the Branch called scratch Hall Drum, likewise my Will and desire is that the plantation whereon I now liveth shall be equally divided between my Sons Thomas & Willis Piland as they may think proper, not debaring my Daughter Peggy Piland liberty of my House and as much of the Plantation as she can and as long as she may live Single likewise I give my son Willis Piland one Cow and Calf and one Feather Bed and Furniture. My will and desire that the remainder part of my Estate be equally Divided between my two Sons William and Thomas & my Daughter Peggy Piland as they may think proper to them and their Heirs forever, and I do nominate and apint my two Sons Thomas & William Piland to be my Executors of this my Last Will and Testament making and disanulling all other Will or Wills by me heretofore made and this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament bearing Date this Seventh day of November 1788

likewise my Will is that in deviding the Plantation that my Son Willis should have the House that I live in on his half of the Plantation. I acknowledge this to be my last Will & Testament in the presence of us William Davidson William Fryer David X Piland (his mark)

State of North Carolina Gates County - November Inferior Court of Pleas 1789 The within Will was exhibited unto Court by Thomas Piland and Willis Piland Executors therein appointed and was proved by the oaths of William Davidson William Fryer and David Piland Subscribing Witnesses thereto and then the said Will was Ordered to be recorded at the same time the said Executors came into Court and equally quallified themselves for that office and prayed an order for Letters Testamentary therein which was accordingly granted.
