LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF SHADRACK PILAND OF GATES COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA (Will Book 4, pp. 10-11, Gates County Courthouse) I Shadrack Piland Sr. of the County of Gates and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my last Will and testament (and making all other wills and paper writing of every and any description made and published by me forever void) in manner and form following that is to say First that my executor (hereafter named) shall provide for my body a decent burial, suitable to the wishes of my friends and relatives and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts howsoever and to whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first come into his hands as a part or parcel of my estate Item - I give and devise to my beloved son Shadrack Piland Jr. all of my land on which I now live including my dwelling and all out houses and other improvements, to have and to hold to him the said Shadrack Piland Jr. and his heirs, in fee simple forever Item - I give and devise to my beloved daughter Charetia Peirce wife of Cencennattus Peirce one feather bed and furniture (it being the one that belong to my deceased son Isaac Piland) Item - I give and devise unto my beloved son Shadrack Piland Jr. all of my stock of Cattle, hogs, sheep and crops of every description, any horses and cart and wheels and all of my farming implements and household and kitchen furniture. And lastly - I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Shadrack Piland Jr. my executor to all interests and purposes to execute this my last will and testament, according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every part and clause thereof - hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made. Shadrack signed as bondsman for marriage of William Piland and Milly Pierce, NC 10 Jun 1818; C. E. Piland and Cinsanatas Pearce, Gates Co, NC 20 Nov 1861; George Piland and Harriet Lawrence, married Gates Co, NC 7 Feb 1860; Wiley Piland and Mary Maurice, married Gates Co, NC 13 Aug 1846.
