Information from David Floyd Pylant, grandson of Marion Franklin Pylant: <p>My grandfather, Marion Pylant, left Howell, Tennessee when my father, William Asberry, was a small boy. Dad remembers living in New Market, Alabama for about a year. Marion was always seeing greener pastures over the next hill. He said he was moving on account of grandmother's health but she denied it. He migrated west to Roseland, New Mexico. He left there and came back across Texas in a covered wagon to DeQueen, Arkansas. Dad said he saw his first automobile on this trip. Granddad left there and came down into Louisiana to the small town of Urania. He stayed there for several years. That is where dad married Zelma Cox. Her dad was superintendent of the saw mill there. Dad worked there also. I don't know why they left there and came to a small community in Franklin Parish. Dad bought forty acres of land about nine miles from Winnsboro, Louisiana in the community of Hill Ridge. He farmed there until his death. Marion never owned any property that I know of; he rented farm land from the time I knew him until he died. |
