Obit; Pocahontas Star Herald, 16 Oct 1930:
Mrs. Novella F. Pyland died on Monday Oct 13, 1930 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Slayton of this place after a very painful and lingering illness. She was 77 years, seven months, and 10 days old.
Mrs. Pyland's home was at Noland where she had faithfully served the people for 43 years as their postmistress. She was laid to rest on Tuesday afternoon at the family cemetery at Noland. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. J. Will Henley of Skaggs. Her going was the first death in the family.
She leaves an aged husband, B. A. Pyland, and ten children; Mrs. India Slayton, Mrs. Florence Gwinn and Mrs. Ora Pace of Pocahontas, Mrs. Lena Young of Swifton, Mrs. Hattie Hooton of Garden Grove, Calif., Mrs. Elmer Slayton of Brea, Calif., Claudia and Pearl Pyland of Noland, Ernest Pyland of Fullerton, Calif., and Bert Pyland of Placentia, Calif.
This good woman will certainly be missed by the entire community and the Star Herald extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones.

B. A. Pyland, aged 82, died at his home at Noland on Wednesday, 23 Feb, after a few days of illness.
Mr. Pyland was the husband of the late Mrs. Novella Pyland, who died at the home of their daughter, Mrs. John Slayton, here on Oct 13, 1930. He leaves ten children. The body was laid to rest in the family burying ground by the side of his wife, the following day.

Obituary: On December 26, 1933, the Grim Reaper called at the home of Mr. & Mrs. P. E. Pyland in Brea, California and took their precious baby, Dannie Earl, aged 2 years. He was taken ill December 14. Funeral services were held in Fullerton, Calif., Wednesday, Dec 27. Burial was in Loma Vista Memorial Cemetery, Brea, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Pyland and children had only been in Calif one month. They plan to come back east to live in the near future. (Pocahontas Star Herald, Jan 4, 1934.)

William Cicero Pyland, aged 72, lifelong resident and farmer of Randolph county, died at his home near Noland Sunday. He had spent practically all of his life in the Noland community.
Funeral services were conducted at Noland Tuesday at 2 p.m. by Bro. F. W. Gould of Pocahontas. Interment was in the Chesser cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Etta Pyland; a son, Marshall Pyland of Rockford, ILL; five daughters, Mrs. Verda Bennett of Chicago, Mrs. Neva Million of Pocahontas, Mrs. Nena Hulse of Kennett, Mo., Mrs. Ruby White of Sycamore, ILL., and Mrs. Connie Phillips of Geona, ILL; three brothers, Bert and Ernest Pyland of California and Pearl Pyland of Black Rock; five sisters, Mrs. India Slayton, Mrs. Florence Gwinn, Mrs. Noah Pace of Pocahontas, Mrs. Lena Young of Tuckerman, and Mrs. Hattie Hooten of California.

Born at Noland, he was a veteran of World War I, retired self-employed businessman and was a member of the Black Rock Church of Christ. He and his family resided in Pocahontas in the lates 1920s and early 1930s.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Claudia Pyland of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mignon Smith, West Memphis, and Mrs. Phyllis Kyger, Ellisville, Mo.; three sons, Joe M. Pyland, Black Rock, P. E. Pyland, Jr., Napa, Calif., and Robert Pyland, Warrenton, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Lena Wright, Walnut Ridge; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 in the Black Rock Church of Christ with Lamoyne Mulle, minister, officiating. Burial was in the Pyland cemetery at Noland under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge.
Pallbearers were Joe Hester, Joe Tomlinson, Edwin Grissom, Don DePreist, Norman Kyger and Shaw Jones. Honorary pallbearers were R. D. McGough, Bud Verkler, Frank Meek, Sam Hill, Wesley Woodson, Charles Young, Willard Upshaw and Perry Joe Pace.
