Obit; Pocahontas Star Herald, 23 Sep 1982: P. L. (Pearl) Pyland, 86, Black Rock, died last Thursday morning in the VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Born at Noland, he was a veteran of World War I, retired self-employed businessman and was a member of the Black Rock Church of Christ. He and his family resided in Pocahontas in the lates 1920s and early 1930s. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Claudia Pyland of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mignon Smith, West Memphis, and Mrs. Phyllis Kyger, Ellisville, Mo.; three sons, Joe M. Pyland, Black Rock, P. E. Pyland, Jr., Napa, Calif., and Robert Pyland, Warrenton, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Lena Wright, Walnut Ridge; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 in the Black Rock Church of Christ with Lamoyne Mulle, minister, officiating. Burial was in the Pyland cemetery at Noland under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service of Walnut Ridge. Pallbearers were Joe Hester, Joe Tomlinson, Edwin Grissom, Don DePreist, Norman Kyger and Shaw Jones. Honorary pallbearers were R. D. McGough, Bud Verkler, Frank Meek, Sam Hill, Wesley Woodson, Charles Young, Willard Upshaw and Perry Joe Pace. |
