Pocahontas Star Herald - Pocahontas, Arkansas - 22 Dec 1966: Prominent Local Businessman Dies NOAH PACE Noah Edward Pace, 79, widely-known Pocahontas businessman, died at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, Sunday, after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Pocahontas, Mr. Pace has been in business in Pocahontas for approximately 50 years. He became quite well known throughout this area during the 1920's and 1930's as having built a large horse and mule trading business here, and around 1940 he established N. E. Pace and Sons John Deere Dealers Co., in E. Pocahontas, in which he was most active until the time of his death. Born Jan. 14, 1887, in Marshall County, KY., he was a son of the late Jasper and Cinda Barnett Pace, who moved to the Noland community around 1890. He had served many years as a deacon of Pyburn Street Church of Christ and was the only local surviving charter member of the church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ora Pace, of the home; 2 sons, Duke and Perry Joe Pace of Pocahontas; 2 daughters, Mrs. Cona Jean Upshaw of Pocahontas and Mrs. Maxine Lewis of Clearwater Beach, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mrs. George Englebert, Mrs. Hazel Cain, Mrs. Effie Conner and Mrs. Ada Penn, all of California. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m., in Pyburn Street Church of Christ, with Frank Gould, G. W. Allison and Gary Colley officiating. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery under direct of McNabb Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: H. A. Wilson, William Earl Trammel, Paul Raglin, Lee Huckabee, Harry Johnston, Vance Fender, Guy Amos and Mitt Bennett. Honorary pallbearers were Mayor J. N. Pratt and L. R. Martin.
