George Jackson Piland, 81, of 323 Richmond avenue, retired Texas Company employee and resident here for 42 years, died today at 5:40 a.m. in St. Mary's hospital. He had been in ill health for several years. Mr. Piland, a native of Illinois, was retired by Texaco in 1938. He was a member of Cosmopolitan Lodge 872, A. F. and A. M. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Clayton and Thompson chapel with the Rev. A. C. Bell, Jr., pastor of the Methodist Temple, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park with graveside rites conducted by Cosmopolitan lodge. The lodge will open at 1 p.m. Pallbearers, all Masons, well be E. O. Bray, Bill Lee, Marshall and Rupert LeBlanc, Pruett Moore and W. L. Drake. Mr. Piland is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lylia Piland; one son, G. B. Piland of Fresno, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Richard McWhorter of Port Arthur; three brothers, Joe Piland of Crossville, Ill., Francis Piland of Harrisburg, Ill., and Lidge Piland of Arkansas, and six grandchildren.
