17 June 1916: Friday afternoon at about two o'clock Milo M. Piland was instantly killed by an electric shock at the power plant of the Southern Illinois Railway and Power Company at Muddy. He was an electrical engineer employed by the company, and his hours were from 7 a.m. to 3 o'clock p.m. Mr. Piland was a young man, just 21 years old, and was unmarried. He leaves his father, Francis Piland, and his mother Mrs. J. W. Reese. The funeral services will be held at the Baptist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, under the auspices of the local Masonic Lodge. Rev. C. W. Freeman of the Christian Church will have charge of the services, and Dr. A. E. Booth of the Baptist Church will assist.

19 June 1916: The funeral of Milo Piland, who was electrocuted Friday at the power house at Muddy, was held Sunday afternoon and was one of the largest ever seen in Harrisburg. The burial was held at Sunset Hill, with Masonic honors.
