MRS. CURBY'S RITES HELD Avinger - Mrs. Omie Lasater Curby, 88, died at her home at Lassater at 9 a.m. Thursday after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Lassater Baptist Church. Officiating ministers were the Rev. A. L. Pearce, former pastor, and the Rev. Frank Kay, present pastor. Burial was in the Pyland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Buddy Gilbert, Elvis Parr, James A. Pruitt, Harvey Moore, Waymon Moore and M. M. Lock. Mrs. Curby was the daughter of a pioneer East Texas family who obtained the land grant for the site of Lassater from the Republic of Texas, which was a stopping point on the famed Trammell's Trace on the route from Jefferson to Greenville. Mrs. Curby was born and died on the home place near the Lassater Baptist Church. Usage has changed the spelling of the town's name from Lassater to Lasater. Mrs. Curby was a charter member of the Lassater Baptist Church. Her husband and one child preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Troy L. Simmons, Lasater; two grandchildren, Mrs. B. W. Jenkins, Daingerfield, and Mrs. Kenneth Durbin, Lubbock; three great grandchildren, Jennifer Jenkins, Daingerfield, Brent Durban and Brandy Durban. |
