Stephen A. Pyland of Rock Island Succumbs at 78
Stephen A. Pyland, 78, who farmed in southern Illinois for 50 years before moving to Rock Island 10 years ago, died at 10 o'clock last night in his home, 1109 26th street, Rock Island. He was born Jan. 12, 1875 in Pope county, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Buxton Pyland. He was reared and received his education in Johnson county, ILLl, and married Florence Hall, Nov. 24, 1895, in the Methodist church at Dixon in Pope county. He was a member of the Methodist church at Dixon Springs, ILL. After he moved to Rock Island from Pope county in 1943 he was employed at the John Deere Harvester plant in East Moline until 1949. Surviving are the widow, two sons; Walter of East Moline and the Rev. Paul Pyland of Zion, ILL; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Cox of Rock Island, and a brother, William R. Robbins of Vienna, ILL. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, three sons and five sisters.

Obituary: (Moline Dispatch, Friday, May 21, 1965)
Mrs. Florence Pyland, 90, died at 8 this morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howard E. Lockard, 4507 15th Ave., Rock Island, with whom she had resided the last 19 years. Mrs. Pyland died after an extended illness.
Arrangements are pending at Esterrdahl Mortuary, where friends may call after 2 Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Pyland was born March 28, 1875 in Pope County, Ill., a daughter of William and Molly Hall. On Nov. 24, 1895, she was married to Stephen A. Pyland in Pope County. Mr. Pyland died July 6, 1954.
Mrs. Pyland attended the Bethesda Assembly of God Church, Moline.
Surviving are the daughter, two sons, Walter, East Moline, and Paul, Dexter, Mo.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services for Walter Pyland, 63, of 2416 18th Ave., Rock Island, who died in Lutheran Hospital, will be at 1:30 tomorrow afternoon in the Esterdahl Chapel with the Rev. L. Calvin Bacon officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at the mortuary.
Mr. Pyland was born in Renshaw and married Edna B. Bullock July 7, 1924 in Paducah, Ky. She died March 30, 1966. He married Velma Behymer Oct 22, 1966, in Mattoon.
He had been a lathe operator at John Deere Harvester Works for 39 years, retiring in October, 1965.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in First Assembly of God Church, North Little Rock. Burial will be in Rest Hill Cemetery, North Little Rock. Memorials may be made to the Assembly of God missionary programs. Local arrangements are under the direction of Sisco Chapel.
