Obit; The Rock Island Argus, 7 July 1953: Stephen A. Pyland of Rock Island Succumbs at 78 Stephen A. Pyland, 78, who farmed in southern Illinois for 50 years before moving to Rock Island 10 years ago, died at 10 o'clock last night in his home, 1109 26th street, Rock Island. He was born Jan. 12, 1875 in Pope county, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Buxton Pyland. He was reared and received his education in Johnson county, ILLl, and married Florence Hall, Nov. 24, 1895, in the Methodist church at Dixon in Pope county. He was a member of the Methodist church at Dixon Springs, ILL. After he moved to Rock Island from Pope county in 1943 he was employed at the John Deere Harvester plant in East Moline until 1949. Surviving are the widow, two sons; Walter of East Moline and the Rev. Paul Pyland of Zion, ILL; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Cox of Rock Island, and a brother, William R. Robbins of Vienna, ILL. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, three sons and five sisters.
