(Lincoln County (TN) News Supplement, May 1904)

J. M. RENFROW, Postmaster at Petersburg

 J. M. Renfrow is a native Lincoln Countian and was born near Petersburg n 1868, his parents being James F. Renfrow, who died a few years ago at the age of 86, and Mrs. Easter Renfrow, who still lives and is 84 years of age, both numbering among the most honorable people of that good section. Mr. Renfrow was reared on a farm and received his education at the public schools. He has spent all his life at and near the home place, except for the spring of 1888, when he worked with his brother, now deceased, in the railroad office at McEwen, Tenn. He made a creditable race on the Republican ticket (having always been loyal to this party) for representative from this county in 1898. He was appointed postmaster at Petersburg in May, 1901, and it is the testimony of all the patrons of the office that there was never a more courteous or obliging one, or one who was more careful of the business of the office. Mr. Renfrow owns a nice farm of about a hundred acres of good land near town. His wife, a most estimable woman, was formerly Miss Fannie Pylant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. G. Pylant, most excellent citizens. She assists her husband in the office and is almost indispensable in the conduct of same. She understands every detail of the business, and to her we are indebted for the report of 53,899 pieces of mail being distributed on the three rural routes from that office in 1902, and also the figures for the money order business there, which, show that the office paid $2,449.62 for orders last year, and issued them to the extent of $4,881.66.
