H. C. HOLLOWELL - Hubert Clayton Hollowell, aged 74, well known retired Pocahontas merchant, died in St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro early Tuesday nmorning after have undergone treatment there for a short time. Mr. Hollowell was born Oct. 20, 1879, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Hollowell and had lived most of his life in Pocahontas during which time he was engaged in the mercantile business and served as postmaster here 11 years, from 1922 until April 1933. He also had farming interests near Pocahontas and had given his personal attention to caring for the farm. For many years he had been a leader in the Republican party in Randolph county and in the state. He had served as a member of the State Republican Executive Committee and had been an attendant to numerous G.O.P. conventions. He had also taken an active part in Church of Christ affairs. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ in Pocahontas at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon by Bro. F. W. Gould. Pallbearers were Ralph Murphy, Andrew Gwinn, Bill Russell, Edd Holt, Donald McCallister and Noah Pace. Interment was in Old Union cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ella Hufstedler Hollowell; two sons, Walter of Benton and H. F. (Buddy) of Pocahontas; two grandchildren and a nephew. |
