George I. Pylant, 75, of Pembroke, a former Navy officer who owned and operated the Pylant Grocery Stores in Hanover and Kingston in the 1970s, and who was a printer at Massasoit Community College, Brockton, for 18 years, died at home Tuesday after a short illness.
Mr. Pylant was a Navy officer for 21 years before retiring in the early 1960s.
Mr. Pylant enjoyed gardening and hunting. He was a member of Pheonix Masonic Lodge in Hanover.
He was born in Clara, Miss., grew up and attended school in Richmond, Miss., and was a graduate of the Printing Institute of New England.
He is survived by his wife, Alice M. (Bolduc) Pylant; two sons and a daughter, James M. Pylant, George A. Pylant and Sandra J. Tryon, all of Plymouth; a sister, Hazel Finley of Richmond, Miss.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, 214 Main St., Hanson. Burial will be in the Hanover Cemetery.
Visiting is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Hanover, where a Masonic service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Friday.
