History of Labette County, Kansas and its Representative Citizens:

<p> EDWARD D. CLARK, a prominent young business man of Laneville, Labette county, Kansas, is a native of the county, and, his career has been watched with much interest by his numerous friends. He is a man of intelligence and good business ability, and, being an energetic worker, he has bright prospects ahead. Mr. Clark was born in the village of Montana, April 29, 1870, and is a son of T. J. and Mary (Davidson) Clark.<p> T. J. Clark was a native of Virginia, and was born in 1832. He was a carpenter by trade and an honest, upright citizen. He married Mary Davidson, who was also a native of Virginia, and they reared the following children: Nicholas W.; Edward, the subject of this sketch; George; Howard W.; Nita; Catherine J.; Ada; Clyde; Lucy; Bessie; and Pearl. Howard W. assists his brother in the grocery and grain business.<p> Edward D. Clark attended the public schools of Labette county, after which he went to Baxter Springs College, at Baxter Springs, Kansas. He also attended the State Normal School of Fort Scott, Kansas. He then went to Labette City, where he kept books for a period, but, being dissatisfied with this work, concluded to locate in Laneville, where he has resided ever since. Mr. Clark and his brother Howard are engaged in the grocery and grain business, and they have a large patronage. They are gradually increasing their stock, and the prospects are they will be unusually successful in the future.<p> Mr. Clark is a stanch member of the Republican party, taking an active interest in the politics of the county. He is serving his second term as clerk of Neosho township, and filling the position in a creditable manner. He takes a deep interest in educational matters, and is at present a member of the school board. Mr. Clark is agent for the Adams Express Company at Lanesville, and also for the Kansas City, Fort Scott & Memphis Railroad Company. He is filling the position of postmaster in an able manner. Mr. Clark belongs to the Modern Woodmen of America, and religiously he is liberal. Mr. Clark married Lulu Pyland, a native of Missouri, who was born in 1877. They have been blessed with one child, Robert.
