REV. B. F. GILBERT - Funeral services for the Rev. B. F. Gilbert, 62, missionary in Cuba for the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, will be held in Havana, Cuba, where he died Friday according to information received by relatives here. Mr. Gilbert was born in Franklin County, March 28, 1871. He was educated at the Winchester Normal School and at Vanderbilt University. In 1902 he went to Cuba as a missionary and served continuously for more than thirty years. In 1932, he was superannuated from active work. In 1905, Mr. Gilbert was married to Senorita Olivia Molina, who survives him. He made visits to this country every few years to see his friends and relatives here. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clifford H. Horne, Mrs. Frank Marrial, and Miss Grace Gilbert, all of Havana; one son, G. G. Gilbert of Washington, D. C.; a sister, Mrs. J. A. Corn, of Nashville; and a brother, J. A. Gilbert, of Estell Springs. M. E. MISSIONARY DIES The Rev. B. F. Gilbert, missionary in Cuba under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, died in Havana Saturday morning, according to advices received at the Methodist board of missions here. The Rev. Mr. Gilbert entered missionary service in 1902. He served continuously for 30 years and was superannuated from active work in 1932. He is survived by his wife and the following daughters in Cuba: Maria Rosabel, Estelle Carolina and Graziella Elena; and a son, Gabriel, in Atlanta, Ga. Other surviving relatives in the states are a sister, Mrs. John Corn; uncle, B. C. Seaton; nieces and nephews, Mrs. W. J. Boomer, Mrs. George H. Blake, Mrs. Ralston Nugent, Edward S. Seaton, all of Nashville; Jesse W. Seaton of Atlanta and Charles T. Seaton of Birmingham, Ala. The Rev. Mr. Gilbert was conspicuous for valuable service rendered in evangelistic work. He was married in 1905 to Senorita Maria Olena Molina of Camaguey, Cuba, who shared missionary nonors with him. |
