(From letter written to Mrs. George Hopkins (then Franklin County TN Library librarian, dated 22 Jan 1971 from Warner C. Cooke.)
I will relate another story that may be of inerest to the Hopkins and your historical society. Abraham Cook came with an emigration train from Eastern Virginia in 1818 and settled on lands on the Elk River near the mouth of the Big Hurricane Creek and married Blanche January. Born to them were five children, one was a girl named Nellie who married Willie (Bill) Pylant and moved to East Brook (in Franklin County) Tennessee. Had an issue of nine girls and one boy. One named Mary who married Will or Jack Hopkins. Then the second Will Hopkins then Homer and George and others.
Nellie Cook Pylant was born December 6, 1825, died January 29, 1897, and was buried in the Fanning Cemetery overlooking the beautiful Elk River Valley in sight of where she was born and raised.
Willie (Bill) Pylant was born May 28, 1821, died July l4, 1893, and was buried in the Fanning Cemetery by Nellie, his wife.
Charlie C. Cook, Nellie's youngest brother, was born December 1822, buried at Little Hurricane Church Cemetery 1904. This Charlie Cook was my father.
Aunt Nellie Pylant was the only aunt I ever knew. The descendants of Bill and Nellie Pylant are quite numerous over Franklin County and to the far corners of our country. Among the best people of our country, engaged in all walks of life.
Jim Pylant, the only boy, has a sad story. Disappeared after his cattle sold at the stock yards.
