James was a WW II verteran. Served in the Seabees in the South Pacific. Self-taught musician who could play anything. Played in the old Grand Ole Opry. Played backup with Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Jefferson Airplane and many other famous groups as well as being a featured performer at many jazz and blugrass festivals.
