Sean Michael O’Brien, age 27, entered into rest July 23, 2007 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born April 20, 1980 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a graduate of Del Rio High School and Southwestern University. He was an extremely bright and happy child even in his infancy and toddler years.
Sean moved to Del Rio when he was 6 years old and touched many people’s lives in good ways. He attended St. James School and then public school from 6th grade to graduation from Del Rio High. At St. James he participated in Boy Scouts and had fun with soapbox derbies and campouts to Camp Sul Meyer. He played in the Del Rio Laughlin Youth Soccer League.
Sean trained in martial arts with Roland Trevino for a number of years. He lifted weights at Todd Townsend’s Gym. In school he was a member of the National Honor Society and played violin in the orchestra. During his high school years he became certified as a lifeguard and worked at the base pool for a number of summers. He went on backpacking trips with a wilderness group and went to England and Ireland with the high school travel group. During high school and his first year at college he helped restore a 1968 Mustang that was beautiful. He was also certified in vertical rescue.
In college he did well, even after his illness struck him. Despite his depression, mania, medications and his hospitalizations, he graduated and was recognized as a young botanist for his research work. He was accepted into and attended graduate school in Dallas in the molecular and cellular biology program. This lasted only half a year, as his illness and the strain of the program were too much for him. He returned home to live a little over a year ago and made his family happy. While back in Del Rio he was active in various online bipolar support groups helping other individuals with this illness keep their heads above water. He also achieved level 70 in WoW as a hunter.
We miss Sean already.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Dr. Larry and Nancy O’Brien. Brother Nicholas O’Brien and sister Tess O’Brien of Del Rio. Paternal grandparents: Lawrence O’Brien and wife Lydia of Ft. Worth, Texas. Maternal grandparents: Ted Pylant and wife Shirley of Arlington, Texas. Uncle Chris Pylant of Arlington, Texas. Aunts: Suzette Pylant of Waxahachie, Texas, Jeanne Friedman of Arlington, Texas, Joan Wehman of Cedar Creek, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, Chapel of Remembrance.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 Bedell Ave., Del Rio, Texas 78840 (830) 778-2020.
