CLAUD J. PILAND
The Rev. Claud J. Piland, 72, a resident of Crossville, died at 11 a.m. Thursday at his residence.
He was born July 23, 1909 in Phillips Township, the son of Joseph G. and Anna E. Sturm Piland and was married April 17, 1951 in Keensburg to Elaine Rigg, who survives.
He had been the pastor of the Brownsville United Methodist Church for seven years until he resigned Oct. 4, 1981 because of ill health. He was a member of the Southern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Sheba Lodge No. 200 AF and AM, Grayville and of Scottish Rite
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Crossville Methodist Church, with District Superintendent, the Rev. Ray Porter officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville, at which time Masonic rites will be held.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Chapel in Crossville. The family suggests that memorial contributions be designated to the Brownsville Methodist Church.

Elaine Piland, 76, Mt. Carmel, formerly of Crossville, died Dec. 12, 1996, at Shurtleff Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Carmel.
She was born March 20, 1920, in Wabash County; the daughter of John M. and Eloise Marie (Anthis) Rigg.
She married Rev. Claud J. Piland on April 17, 1951, in Keensburg; he preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1981.
Mrs. Piland, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel, was a 50-year member of Modern Woodmen of America.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Paul) Shular of Mt. Carmel, and Sue (John) Eagleson) of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; two step-sons, Joseph Piland of Freeport, and George Piland of Rantoul; a sister, Laura Weisenberger of Mt. Carmel; two brothers, Harry A. Rigg of Honolulu, and John L. Rigg of Atlanta, Ga.; three granchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at Sturm Funeral Home in Crossville; the Rev. Killion will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
