LAST RITES FOR MRS. ROY WHEELER HELD ON SUNDAY
Last rites for Mrs. Roy Wheeler, 69, a resident of Canadian for half a century, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the First Christian Church in Canadian, with Minister W. F. Turnage conducting the services.
Burial was in the Canadian cemetery under direction of Stickley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wheeler died last Thursday, January 26, at Hemphill County Hospital, after a few days illness.
Surviving her are her husband, Roy, of Canadian; two sons, Melvin Wheeler of Neosho, Missouri and Kenneth Wheeler of Midland, South Dakota; four daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Norma) Carr and Mrs. Bernie Sorenson, both of Canadian; Mrs. Winona Stephenson of Goodman, Missouri, and Mrs. Opal Kent of Miami; twenty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers at the funeral services were Don Satterwhite, Roger Batts, Ed Stephenson; Mike Reagan, Hub Hext and Homer Thomas.
Mrs. Wheeler was a native of Illinois. Frankie Burton and Roy Wheeler were married on September 13, 1916, in Rankin, Oklahoma and celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary with an open house party here last September.
After living for a year on a farm near Reydon, the Wheelers moved to Canadian in 1917 and except for a four year interval (1918-1922) when Mr. Wheeler was employed by the Santa Fe as a machinist in Amarillo, have made their home in the Canadian area since that time.
