Piland's move to Ozark County, Missouri 1846 , Ozark County Missouri Two brothers, Samuel PILAND (1801-1871)& John PILAND, with their families came to Ozark Co in the fall of 1846 They were also accompanied by a sister,Penina PILAND,(1820-1868), and her husband, Rev. Thomas NORRIS (1810-1882), and their three sons: William, Thomas, and Samuel Everett. The PILAND brothers' first move had been from Hertford Co NC in 1834 to Henderson Co KY. They were the sons of John W. PILAND Sr., (son of James PILAND, who was the son of Thomas PILAND, all of Herford Co NC) and Elizabeth EURE of Gates Co NC. They had two other known brothers: Stephen PILAND and Everett PILAND. Samuel PILAND m. Martha ("Pattsa") GODFREY (1803-1871). They arrived in Ozark Co MO with seven of their nine children and homesteaded land on Little North Fork of White River and Little Creek at what is now Thornfield, MO. Their children were: Mary PILAND (1826 NC); Joseph John PILAND (1828 NC)m. Nancy Jane PEDAN. William J. PILAND (1832 NC)m. Mary A. HERNDON. Samuel E. PILAND (1836 KY) m. Sarah McGEE. Noah Nicholas PILAND (b. 6 Nov 1839 Hopkins Co KY, m. Jane MERRITT, d. 20 Apr 1925, both buried at Norris/Piland Cemetery. Pennecia PILAND (1840 KY); Thomas PILAND (1845 KY)m. Martha Ann RETHERFORD. David G. PILAND (1849 Ozark Co MO) m. Margaret BENNETT. Nancy Jane PILAND (1858 Ozark Co MO). Little is known of Mary, Pennica, or Nancy Jane.
