Obit: Paul L. Hoge, age 86, of Seymour, Texas, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2008, in Seymour.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Seymour, with Rev. Mike Miller of Trinity United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, and Rev. Steve Ulrey, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Knox City Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Hoge was born July 13, 1922, in Knox City, Texas, to Clay C. and Libbie Reynolds Hoge. He was raised in Knox City, and began his long career at Frizzell Drug in 1936 when he was only 14 years old. After high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin. While there, Pearl Harbor was attacked and Paul enlisted in the United States Navy in August 1942. While in the Navy he trained in surgical assistance and was placed on the USS Comfort, a hospital ship.
After the war he returned to the University of Texas and received his degree in pharmacy. On June 23, 1946, he married Pauline “Polly” Wilbanks in Austin, Texas. Returning to Knox City, they bought Frizzell Drug, which they owned for 19 years. After selling the drug store in Knox City, they moved to Seymour and purchased the Baylor Drug Store, which they operated until 1992. After selling the Baylor Drug Store, Paul worked part-time as a pharmacist at Fergesons in Seymour.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, and was a member of the Seymour Lion’s Club. He was also honored by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy for over 50 years of service as a pharmacist.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Hinton of Wichita Falls, Texas; one son, David Hoge and his wife, Elizabeth Blount of Spicewood, Texas; one sister, Claydene Steakley of Temple, Texas; his grandchildren, Libbie Stegal and husband, Eric of Corinth, Texas, Shauntel Neves of Lubbock, Texas, Dinny Neskorik and wife, Denise of Humble, Texas, and Shari Vaillancourt and husband, Kevin of Little Rock, Arkansas; and by two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Kyle Neskorik.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly on May 16, 2004; his parents; and a sister, Mary Leone McMurray.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Seymour or to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls.
Visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
