Obit: (The Morning Sun; Pittsburg, KS; 29 May 1992) Mabel Silva, 88, formerly of 2914 N. Michigan, died at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 1992, at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home. She had been a resident of the Sunset Manor since Dec. 2, 1991. Mrs. Silva was born Nov. 23, 1903 at Blossburg, N.M. She moved with her parents as a small girl to Frontenac, where she lived until moving to Vinita, Okla., in 1920. In 1964, she moved to Pittsburg where she lived until entering the nursing home. She attended Frontenac schools and married Mike Silva Dec. 18, 1920 at Girard. He preceded her in death March 8, 1965. Mrs. Silva was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Vinita, Okla., and the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 43. Survivors include one brother, William Shock of Frontenac and one niece, Nellie Kozjek of Route 1, Pittsburg, who helped provide for her care. She was preceded in death by one brother, Merle 'Bud' Shock and one sister, Mildred Figel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Friskel Funeral Home, Frontenac, with the Rev. Verl Strong, of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Friskel Funeral Home, Frontenac. Friends may call anytime after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. |
