Obituary: Helen Mignon Pyland Smith, age 75, of Black Rock, died March 27, 2001, at her home. Born Dec. 10, 1925 in Noland, she was the daughter of P. E. and Gladys Holmes Pyland. She was a retired bookkeeper, a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Walnut Riodge and an active member of the Black Rock Alumni Association and Scholarship Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Joe Pyland and Robert Pyland. Survivors include her husband, Stanford J. Smith; two daughters, Drew Smith, Jonesboro, and Jane Rhodes, Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Ed Pyland, Napa, Calif.; a sister, Phyllis Gail Kyger, St. Louis, and two grandchilddren, Jacob Rhodes and Caitlin Drew Rhodes. Graveside service and burial will be Thursday morning at 10 at Oak Forrest Cemetery in Black Rock with Dale Cobble officiating. Higginbotham Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
