Obit; Hollis News, 18 Sep 1997: Floyd Whitson, 91, of Hollis, died Monday, Sep 15, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis. Funeral services were to be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sep 18, at Patterson Greer Chapel in Hollis with Rev. Hoyt Ellis officiating. Interment was to be held at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Patterson Greer Funeral Home. Whitson was born June 17, 1906 in Ada to Henry and Allie (Balthrop) Whitson. He moved to Harmon County in 1924. He married Vera Coward on June 6, 1934 in Hollis. He had several occupations including farming and working for the railroad, retiring in the 1970s. He was a loving, gentle man who loved people. His greatest joy was working in his garden. In Oct of 1995 he moved to Colonial Manor II Nursing facility in Hollis. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include; his wife, Vera Whitson, of Hollis; one son, Earl Whitson, of Pampa, Texas; three daughters, Evelyn Caswell of Hollis, Shirley Orr of Vinson and Carol Stribling of Pampa, Texas; one brother, Claude Whitson of Vinita; two sisters, Eunice Powers of Woodward and Lamoa Corbitt of Fort Supply; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eulice Whitson, Oscar Whitson and Woodrow Whitson; and two sisters, Pearl Roddy and Maude Roper.
