Graveside services for Alvin Copeland Harper, 84, of Ocala, FL formerly of Crowville, LA, will be 2:00 PM May 9, 2009 at the Crowville Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Harper officiating under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro, La. Visitation will begin at 11 AM on May 9, 2009 at the funeral home.

Alvin was born March 11, 1925 to the union of his parents Arthur Harris and Lilly Pylant Harper and passed from this life on April 30, 2009. He was a resident of Summerville Ocala West Alzheimer Care Facility. After graduating from Crowville High School he entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he served form 1943 to 1945. After service he received his B. S. Degree in 1952 from Louisiana State University, his M. S. Degree in 1954 from Louisiana State University, and his PHD in 1962 from Purdue University. Alvin spent 27 years with Louisiana State University in various administrative capacities including Executive Vice-President and Chancellor of the Agriculture Center before retiring in 1984. he was an avid outdoorsman and gardener He is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Lillie Sistrunk Harper; son: Steven Wayne Harper; brothers: James .Harper and Arthur Harper; sisters: Doris Ashley, Mattie McDuffie, and Maurice Craft.

Alvin is survived by his wife: Kathryn Dawson Harper of Ocala, FL; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Kay Harper of Yukon, Oklahoma; one brother: Hollis Harper; four grandchildren: Kristin Harper, Kyle Harper,Amy Harper and Scott Harper; and other nieces and nephews.
