Enlisted, May 13 1838 Honorably discharged July 14, 1838. In service 63 days. Bounty Land Warrant No. 53071 for 120 acres issued Oct of 1855. Declaration filed October 17, 1892. Alleges service in Hunter's Company. Claimant signs by X. Wheel P. O. Bedford Co Tennessee October __ 1892 We the undersigned Henry R. Hay aged 77 years and Mrs. Pansy Hay aged 77 years - husband and wife - solemnly state on oath that we have known claimant Elijah Pyland for over fifty years, and while we admit that we did not see him ? while a enlisted in 1835 or 1836 we know that he always claimed to have served the ___ but I him, and heard others corroborate it. Never having anybody dispute it. One of our ?___ Henry R. Hay saw him wearing a soldier's uniform. In other words taking every thing into consideration we are firmly convinced that he served as stated, and ___ ___ know that his name is Elijah Pyland and a citizen of the United States. Bedford County Tennessee October 8th 1892 I the undersigned, Elijah Pyland, aged 77 years, a citizen of the United States and resident of this place, solemnly certify on oath as follows, viz: I enlisted on or about 1835 or 1836 in a Company at Farmington Tenn for the purpose of fighting, ____ moving some of the Southern tribes of Indians, and served faithfully for four months, when I was honorably discharged, obtaining for ___ services a ___ of forty acres and subsequently one for one hundred and twenty more. Owing to the great elapse of time I can not recall except I ___ nor letter of company and number of battalion. Our Captain was Ephraim Hunter. Our first Colonel was Yokum and Capt. Ephraim Hunter subsequently took his place. I also wish to state that the above named military service was the only one I ever performed. Neither was I ever a marine or sailor. Nor was I ever taken any pension nor did I ever before apply for such a one. Understanding however that I am entitled to a pension under Sch. July 27th 1892, I respectfully make this application for the purpose of being put on the pension role of the United States in conformity with the provisions of said Act. My P.
