John Douglas Pyland was born 12 March 1822 in Wilson County, Tennessee and married Mary Susan Lasater 6 July 1852 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. They moved to Dallas County, Texas sometime between 1856 and 1859 (their son John R. was born in Tennessee in 1856 and their son William P. was born in Texas in 1859). <p>In September 1862 John Douglas Pyland bought 500 acres of land in Marion County, Texas from William Johnson for $1720. Bond recorded in County Clerk's office, Marion County, Texas; Vol. 9, pg 636: The State of Texas County of Dallas Know all men by these present that I William Johnson of the State of Texas and County of Marion for and in consideration of the sum of seventeen hundred and twenty dollars to me in hand paid by J. D. Pyland of the State of Texas and County of Dallas, have this day granted, bargained and sold to the said J. D. Pyland his heirs administrators or assigns a certain tract of land, being and lying in the State of Texas and County of Marion about 13 miles northwest from the town of Jefferson on the road to Daingerfield and known as the survey of Wright and containing five hundred acres and deeded to Harris Johnson, and I William Johnson do bind myself, my heirs administrators or assigns in the final sum of thirty four hundred and forty dollars to make or cause to be made to the said Pyland his heirs or administrators a good and warranty title to the said tract of land this 1st Sept 1862.
