Pyland nee O'Neal, aged 70 years, a citizen of the United States and a lifelong resident of Bedford and Marshall County, Tennessee, certify on oath as follows, viz: I was married to my late husband Hardy L. Pyland at Farmington, Marshall County, Tennessee on November 17th 1839 by Squire Ephraim Hunter.
We had 13 children; the youngest one is named Ketorah Alice Pyland, married to Robert Smith, was born Jan 30 1861. My late husband died at home on June 15th 1891. He was a soldier in one of the Indian Wars said to have been somewhere in 1835 or 1836.
His company was made up at Farmington, Marshall County, Tennessee; the Captain, Ephraim Hunter; the Lieut. was Wilber A. Beetz; the field Col. was one Yoakum; after him Capt. Ephraim Hunter took his place.
I'm unable to tell what became of his discharge; I understand he got a Endorsement for his services and served about 2 months or so.
I have remained faithful to my husband's memory; did not remarry; am not receiving any pension and never applied for one before. My late husband never served in the army or navy after his discharge from the Indian War.
Understanding that the Act of July 27th 1892 grants a pension to the survivors of the Indian Wars from 1832 to 1842, I most respectfully make this application for the purpose of being paid.

(Chancery Court of Records of Bedford County, TN): Jacob F. Thompson & others vs Pyland, Pickle & others Jacob F. Thompson, Newcomb Thompson, 3rd, and William Brown filed against Hardy Pyland and Newton Pickle, both of Bedford County. Orators states that your orator, Newcomb Thompson, 3rd, sold by deed to Hardy Pyland two tracts of land dating 5 April 1856. One of 85 acres and another of 100 acres. Your orator has been informed that Pyland has made a pretended conveyance of part said land to James M. O'Neal, also Pyland has pretended to sell said 85 acres to Newton Pickle but no record can be found of same. Orators claim that Newton Pickle, J. M. O'Neal and Hardy Pyland are committing great waste on said land by cutting and hauling off the valuable cedar timber, selling and pocketing the proceeds.
