Information from Archives Division, Texas State Library: Andrew H. Pylant, born: Alabama, 1839; occupation, farmer; served in 17th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Bragg's Brigade, Tennessee Army; came to Texas in 1866; residence, Baileyville, Milam County; admitted to Confederate Home, Austin, Texas, 15 January 1914; religious persuasion, Baptist; died 11 June 1916; buried: Rosebud, Texas (Caddo Cemetery).

From Confederate Military History: THE SEVENTEENTH ALABAMA INFANTRY - The seventeenth Alabama infantry was organized at Montgomery, August, 1861. Serving first at Pensacola, it was present at the bombardment of that place October 9, 1861. The Seventeenth was distinguished in the battle of Shiloh, taking a prominent part in the capture of Prentiss' division; served at Mobile from the autumn of 1862 to March, 1864; then joined the army of Tennessee, and, under the command of Gen. E. A. O'Neal, afterward governor of Alabama, fought during Sherman's campaign from Dalton to Lovejoy's Station. It was engaged in the battles of Resaca, May 9th, May 13th to 15th; Cassville, May 19th to 22nd; Kenesaw Mountain, July 9th to 30th. At Peach Tree Creek its commander, Major Burnett, was severely wounded, and Captain Ragland was killed at Atlanta. The regiment was engaged in the battle of Atlanta, July 22nd; at Jonesboro, August 31st to September 1st; and Lovejoy's Station, September 2nd to 6th. The Seventeenth regiment lost heavily at Franklin, November 30th, and at Nashville, December 13th to 16th. Its field officers were Col. Thomas H. Watts, who became attorney-general of the Confederate States; Col. Virgil S. Murphy; Col. J. T. Jones, temporarily assigned; Lieut. Cols. Edward P. Holcombe, Robert C. Farris, and John Ryan, temporarily assigned, and Maj. Thomas J. Burnett.

Andrew applied for a Texas Confederate Pension in 1907 (application # 13450) which was approved 21 March 1908. He lived at Conroe, Montgomery County, Texas at the time.

Andrew was a member of the E. M. Wilder Masonic Lodge #339 at Powers Chapel, Milam County, Texas from 1870 to 1878 and served as Junior Warden.

Moved from Coosa Co, AL to Milam Co, TX in 1866.

The Handbook of Texas Online: BAILEYVILLE, TEXAS
Baileyville is on Farm Road 2027 sixteen miles northeast of Cameron in northern Milam County. Although the community was once known as Smithland or Bailey's Store, the name Baileyville was chosen when the post office was opened in 1874. By 1884 Baileyville had four combination steam gristmill-cotton gins, good schools, a Baptist church, and 500 residents. The community's population fell to 250 in the 1890s, but the school system continued to thrive. In 1903 the Baileyville district had three one-teacher schools for 118 white students and three one-teacher schools for 238 black students. The post office was discontinued in 1924, and Baileyville's population fell sharply in the 1930s. By 1941 the community reported only two businesses and fifty residents. The Baileyville schools were consolidated with the Rosebud Independent School District by the early 1970s. In 1988 county highway maps showed a community hall and scattered businesses and residences. The population in 1990 was forty-five.
