Proceed a few miles to where Union Hollow Road intersects, turn right on this road and proceed a short way until you get to the residence of Bobby and Pam Gray (168 Union Hollow Road, Petersburg, TN), which will be on the left. The cemetery is located in their large back yard - in the back right back corner next to a white fence.

Doniphan (Missouri) Prospect News, 16 May 1884:
Mr. K. Pylant, a well and favorably known citizen of this county, died at his home near Pitman, last Saturday. Mr. Pylant was about 60 years of age, had been a hard worker all his life, and although he possessed a competency to keep him at ease was never quiet and inactive. His death was caused by general debility. He leaves a large circle of relatives and friends who deeply deplore his death.

Claim of a Survivor of the Indian Wars for Pension State of Florida, County of Polk.
On this 8th day of June, A. D., one thousand, eight hundred and nintey-six personally appeared before me, W. H. Johnson, Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for the County and State aforesaid, R. N. Pylant, aged 75 years, a resident of Homeland, County of Polk, state of Florida, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical R. N. Pylant who served the period of ninety days in the Cherokee Disturbance service of the United States in the Removal of the Cherokee Indians from the State of Tennessee, who enlisted under the name of R. N. Pylant at Winchester, County of Franklin, State of Tennessee on the 7th day of May 1836, as a private in Captain G. W. Hudlow's Company, in the Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers commanded by Colonel W. Yokum and was honorably discharged as a private at Calhoun, Tennessee, in 1836. Since his discharge from service he has resided as follows: I resided after discharge from said service in Coosa county, Alabama about 15 years. Have lived in Florida since, about 36 years - Polk county. That he was married at Orange Creek, Florida on the 12th day of October 1881 to Mrs. Elizabeth Howard who is still living. Applicant declares that he was born at Jones' Cross Roads, County of Wake and State of North Carolina, that he was at the date he rendered said service 16 years of age, 5 feet, 0 inches high, of light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a cotton spinner. Treasury Department, Washington, D. C., July 3, 1896: Respectfully returned to the Hon. Commissioner of Pensions. The muster-roll of Captain G. W. Hudlow's Company, Tennessee Volunteers, reports Robert N Pilant enrolled May 14, 1838 and discharged July 12, 1838 at Fort Cass, Tennessee. He was paid from May 14, 1838 to July 12 1838, 2 months and 11 days, including 12 days' travel - 125 miles to place of rendezvous, and 125 miles from place of discharge to home. United States Pension Agency, Knoxville, Tenn., Jan 5, 1906. Certificate No. 3728; Class - survivor, Indian; Pensioner, Robert N. Pylant; Soldier, Pvt. G. W. Hudlow's; Service, Tennessee Volunteers. The Commissioner of Pensions, Sir: I have the honor to report that the above-named pensioner who was last paid at $8 to 4 Nov 1905, has been dropped because of death on Dec 5, 1905.

Robert was a Baptist preacher.

On Sunday last, Dec. 5, Robert Nelson Pylant, an old and highly esteemed citizen of Polk county, died at his home near Homeland in this county. Mr. Pylant was born in South Carolina on the 5th of September, 1820, and was therefore more than eighty-five years of age at the time of his death. He removed to Florida in 1858 and after living in Tampa for several years, came to Polk county and settled at Homeland, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a soldier in the Confederate service during the war, serving his state faithfully in her time of need, and since that time he has been one of her best citizens. He was not only a consistent Christian, but labored in the vineyard of the Master for many years as a local preacher of the Baptist church. Mr. Pylant was twice married, his second wife surviving him. He also leaves two daughters and one son and a large number of grand children and great grand children. The daughters are Mrs. B. F. Stokes and Mrs. L. H. LaRue, and the son, J. B. Pylant, former county commissioner and at present game warden of the county. The burial took place at Homeland on Monday afternoon, the Masonic fraternity, of which deceased was a member, conducting it according to their beautiful and impressive ritual.
