Edgecombe County, NC Deed Book 3, p. 236: On January 24, 1777, Nathan Jones of Chatham County, NC, sold to Robert Pyland of Edgecombe Co. for 40 pounds Virginia money, a tract of 74 acres on the north side of Swift Creek, it being part of a tract of land granted to Thomas Bell, late of Edgecombe Co., by deed bearing date June 20, 1749. The witnesses were W. S. Mearns, Hardy Griffin, and Francis Parker. Courtney Jones, wife of the said Nathan Jones, was examined separately concerning her right of dower in the above tract. Nathan Jones then moved to Georgia. On July 6, 1782, Nathan Jones was dismissed from the Quaker Monthly Meetings at Wrightsboro. (Hinshaw v. 1, p. 1049) Nathan Jones served in the American Revolution from Georgia and received bounty land for his service, upon certification of Col. Greenberry Lee, Feb. 23, 1784. (GA Society of DAR) In Elbert Co, GA on Oct. 1, 1792, Nathan & Courtney Jones sold to Thomas Wilkins 45 acres on Falling Creek which Nathan Jones had previously bought from Thomas Wilkins, to whom it was granted in 1786. Nathan Jones made his will in Elbert Co, GA naming Zachariah Clark and Arthur Jones as the executors of his estate. Nathan Jones died ca. 1807. |
